1 hour AMA this Saturday at 11am EST ($5 Registration Fee)

For those of you new here, one Saturday a month I host an ask-me-anything session where you can show up and get your student loan questions answered.

I host these sessions because I understand not all of you are ready to commit to a 1:1 session. You really just have what you believe is a quick question that needs a quick answer. This is your time to get that help.

Keep in mind, that without looking at your loans, I can’t offer you advice. But I want I can do is give you general information to try and help you get the answer you’re looking for.

Can’t attend? We will send the replay to those who register.

🔍 A closer look at this week’s stories

  • 🥳 SAVE Plan Forgiveness Starts Today
The Education Department is emailing over 150 thousand people starting today letting them now that their loans are forgiven. This latest forgiveness, totaling $1.2 billion, is part of the Biden administration’s effort to fix decades of bad practices and mismanagement by loan servicers like Sallie Mae, Navient, FedLoan, and so on.

  • đź’¸ Pay Down Student Loans & Save For Retirement
The IRS now allows your employer to match your student loan payments by contributing to your 401k. These programs are optional. Hit up your HR to see if your employer is offering a similar program. But before you do, let me explain how it works. (03:49)

  • âś… Forgiveness After 20+ Years of Payments

You can get your student loans forgiven after having them for over 20 years, but time isn’t enough. You have to have qualifying repayment periods. This includes time spent in repayment, forbearance, and some deferment and default periods. Watch our latest video for a deeper dive.

  • đź’° How to Build Wealth Lazily
This article is from one of my favorite personal finance writer’s on the internet, Paco De Leon. If you’re someone who has a bit of disposable income and is ready to invest but don’t know where to start, have a peek at Paco’s explanation of how to build wealth using index funds. Boring but good stuff.

  • 👨🏽‍👦🏽 Parent PLUS Loans Can Be Forgiven
But they won’t be forgiven simply because you’re retired or are experiencing financial hardship. Check out our video walking through the 4 ways to get Parent PLUS Loans forgiven.

🤩 Ask me anything

Every week, we answer some broad questions in a Q&A video. Got something you want to ask?

We’ll share the answers to this week’s question on our YouTube channel this Friday.

This Friday, we’ll review Mary’s situation. She’s a recently divorced mother of 3 who makes $68 thousand per year working in HR and owes $105 thousand for 3 Parent PLUS Loans. She’s struggling to pay her loans and navigate forgiveness programs.
